Listen to the segment and consider the following:
- David, Emily, and John are friends, but they challenge each another willingly and respectfully. Think about how we can emulate them in our own discussions.
- David, Emily, and John "do their homework." They read reports, both secondary and primary in nature, but they don't "lean" on those sources by looking at them at all. They speak extemporaneously about Wilson and the complexities of history. My hope is that you can do the same.
- David both facilitates the conversation and takes part in it; Emily supports the the erasure of Calhoun and Wilson's names from Yale and Princeton, respectively, but John and David intuit why their names should stay.
- David, Emily and John debate, of all things, history! Think about how they each explain the purpose of history.
